In this post I want to give you one of the ways that you could customize the APEX Error page for when you don't want to use the classic default error page.<\/p>\n\n\n

First of all, we see that, although our application is defined to use the Spanish language, - noting the Spanish text in the second sentence-<\/em> we can see that the internal APEX message is in English, and certainly seeing this error page like this is not very attractive, is it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To manage APEX internal messages and translate them into our language we will use the feature in the Globalization section called Text Messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ingresamos a Componentes compartidos -> Globalizaci\u00f3n -> Mensajes de texto<\/p>\n\n\n

Click on the button Create Text Message<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A modal window opens in which we are going to enter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The name of the APEX error code (apex_error_code<\/em>), in this case it is: APEX.AUTHORIZATION.ACCESS_DENIED<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Language: Spanish<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The text of the message:  
    <h1>Acceso Denegado<\/h1>
    <p>No tiene permiso para ingresar a esta página. <\/p>
    <p>Ponte en contacto con tu administrador de TI para obtener acceso. <\/p><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n

    We generate the error again and now it is displayed as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n

    Okay, now let's move on to the interesting part, the customization of this page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The first thing we need to do is to visualize what type of page template the APEX error page is using.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Para ello volvemos a Componentes compartidos -> Interfaz de usuario -> Temas.<\/p>\n\n\n

    Select Universal Theme 42<\/p>\n\n\n

    We check in the default components which page template is assigned for the error page.<\/p>\n\n\n

    As we can see in the image above, the template that uses the error page is the login page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next we go back to the shared components and enter the Templates option in the User Interface section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    APEX groups the templates by type, in this case we need to create a page type template and for this we will make a copy of the login template.<\/p>\n\n\n

    We will give it a name, for example: Custom Error Page.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

    Then we open the template. APEX templates have several sections, in our case as we want to use this page as the error page, where we are going to make the changes will be in section Error Page Template Control<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This template supports the following substitution strings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    #MESSAGE# and #ADDITIONAL_INFO#<\/strong>: places the error message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    #TECHNICAL_INFO#<\/strong>: shows detailed information about internal errors that will only be visible to developers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    #BACK_LINK#<\/strong>: shows a link to the previous page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    #OK#<\/strong> and #RETURN_TO_APPLICATION#<\/strong>returns translated text strings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Let's replace the HTML code contained in the Error Page Template Control -> Error Page Template section:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Before applying the changes, we need to give CSS styles to this HTML, to do this we go to the section Cascading Style Sheet<\/strong> and place the following CSS rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And we assign to the component Error Page<\/strong> be displayed with the template Custom Error Page<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    We apply the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    We force again to generate the error and we can see the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    As we are in development mode, the page is displayed as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n
